At the Mangrove Foundation of India (MFI), our mission begins with restoration — healing the Earth by reviving its most critical ecosystems. We are deeply committed to restoring mangrove forests in Chennai and across India, while expanding our impact through Agroforestry Carbon Credit Projects across the nation.
Mangroves are nature’s frontline defense against climate change and coastal erosion. They protect shorelines, support marine biodiversity, and act as powerful carbon sinks. Yet, they are among the most threatened ecosystems today.
At MFI, we work to restore these vital ecosystems with urgency and dedication.
Our restoration model is community-driven and inclusive. We partner with local communities, empower them with ecological knowledge, and involve them directly in every step of the restoration process — from planting mangrove saplings to continuous monitoring.
Through awareness campaigns, field workshops, and training programs, we build ownership and long-term sustainability into every project.
In addition to coastal restoration, we are leading Agroforestry-based Carbon Credit Projects across India — helping farmers adopt eco-friendly practices while generating income through verified carbon credits. This dual benefit strengthens rural economies and contributes to global climate action.
Every tree planted is a step toward climate justice.
Every mangrove revived is a promise to future generations.
